In commemoration of the International Mangrove Day 2026, TGI Regional Office 4 Batam, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment/Environmental Control Agency, conducted the planting of 1,000 mangrove seedlings in Tembesi Village, Sagulung District, Batam City.
Ecologically, mangrove ecosystems play a vital role as natural carbon sinks, commonly referred to as blue carbon ecosystems. Scientific studies have shown that mangrove forests are capable of absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and storing it within their biomass and sediment at significantly higher levels than terrestrial forests.
Today’s planting initiative serves not only as a natural defense against coastal erosion but also as a tangible contribution to climate change mitigation efforts. Through the restoration and preservation of mangrove ecosystems, we are taking meaningful action to strengthen coastal resilience while supporting a more sustainable future for generations to come.
