Jakarta, 13 November 2024 – PT Transportasi Gas Indonesia, Sembcorp Utilities Pte Ltd., and PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia signed a Joint Development Framework Agreement (JDFA) on 13 November 2024 at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The JDFA is a framework development agreement for building a hydrogen transmission pipeline connecting Sumatra and the Riau Islands in Indonesia to Singapore. In due course, this infrastructure will facilitate the establishment of a green hydrogen hub.

“We are very enthusiastic about this cooperation, which strengthens our commitment to providing clean energy for a more sustainable future,” said A.A.P. Bagus Putra, President Director of PT TGI, in a press release (13/11/2024).

Bagus Putra further stated that the plan to build this pipeline forms part of the company's full commitment to supporting Indonesia's Net Zero Emission 2060 target, in which PT TGI's role in the project is a concrete step towards achieving that target.

“As a company with experience in natural gas transmission in Indonesia, we will continue to expand our portfolio into clean energy, including green hydrogen. This hydrogen pipeline project is in line with our mission to strengthen energy security and accelerate the transition towards low-carbon energy. We believe this collaboration will bring great benefits to Indonesia and Singapore, and will strengthen PT TGI's position as a leader in the sustainable energy industry,” he added.

For information, PT TGI is a joint venture company between PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk. and Transasia Pipeline Company Pvt. Ltd. (a consortium of Medco E&P Corridor Holding Ltd., Petronas International Corporation Ltd. and SPC Indo-Pipeline Co. Ltd.). PT TGI is an owner and operator of natural gas transmission in Indonesia, serving domestic and international markets such as Singapore. Sembcorp, meanwhile, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries Pte. Ltd. PT PLN EPI, in turn, is a subholding of PT PLN (Persero).

This trilateral collaboration will support green hydrogen initiatives and national decarbonisation plans for both Indonesia and Singapore. The initiative is also expected to become the most significant hydrogen development project in South East Asia

Since its establishment, PT TGI has been committed to providing reliable, efficient and safe energy infrastructure. With more than 20 years of experience, PT TGI has become a key player in Indonesia's natural gas industry, for both domestic needs and exports, including gas deliveries to Singapore. With this progressive step towards green hydrogen, PT TGI hopes to expand its contribution to achieving regional decarbonisation targets.
